Gubbio

"Signora," the old lady said to me "Tedeschi?" I said "si" just to be polite and not wanting to get into a conversation; yes, I speak German, but I am Austrian. She then talked in German ..."Zimmer?" "Nein, danke." We were not looking for a room. She kept running alongside me, not taking "no" for an answer. "Camere? Zimmer?" Too bad we didn't need a Zimmer. We should have stayed in Gubbio. Got lost going over the mountains (Charlie's choice) back to Assisi. What a trip! At night it took on an aura of wild and dangerous countryside. I thought I was in the Spessart, a rugged mountainous heavily wooded area in Germany rumored to be full of robbers in old fairytales. I got a little scared and locked my car door. Gerhard says: "You have changed, what's gotten into you? You never were afraid of anything!" I guess I am getting more cautious. I have to get rid of this cautiousness. It does not suit me.

P.S. Charlie bought me a guide book of Gubbio, which I left inadvertently in an alimentari (grocery) when buying a botle of wine for Maria W. What a pity! Maybe I'll find one like it in one of the old book stores here.
