Saturday & Sunday, September 24 & 25: Back in Austria

Saturday, September 24: Trip back to Austria

  1. Much to our astonishment, we are met at the Kirchbert train station by Dad, Kurt and Verena ... who is filling the lobby with welcoming notes of a blues tune!

  2. I look pained, but I assure you it's just exhaustion.

    Sunday, September 25: Grill!

  3. Gerhard giving a sermon.

  4. Consecration.

  5. Verena plays during Communion.

  6. Verena with the altarpiece.

  7. A musician concentrates.

  8. The figure of Christ and a Tirolean house are the foreground to the majestic Wilde Kaiser range.

  9. Now begins an endless quest to get the best view.

  10. Kurt, Verena, Mom, Dad after mass.

  11. There is no best view.

  12. The man of the grill. We had gorgeous weather: sunny and warm.

  13. Brot und Verena.

  14. The men consult. (On what, I'm not sure.)

  15. From Verena and then left to right: Verena, Kurt, Mom, Mali, Gerhard, Christof. Dad is at the grill.

  16. But as Dad says, it's a dumb cook that starves! Or doesn't get a weissbier.

  17. They are either the Blues Brothers, or some sort of mafia. Given Kurt's jazz predilections, I vote for Blues Brothers.

  18. This is such a perfect and precious picture I don't know what to say.

Bonus! Farewell to Salzburg, Monday, September 26

  19. Did you know Doppler was born in Salzburg, and the airport put up a monument to him?

  20. Aaaarrrgggh! The Klangpunkte are following me!

  21. This is a horrendous picture, but under the plastic nose-cone is a sort of computer that (ug) only runs one application, Windows Media Player. You sing into a hole, right where it says "Sing here." Then depending on what note you struck, some sort of opera figure appears on the screen, and starts yodeling away. This is modern art. It is also airport entertainment.

    Goodby, Salzburg.
